Hello Summer: Enjoy Every Moment
In just a few days after this blog is posted, we’ll be celebrating Summer Solstice 2024; the longest day of the year. I always wonder with all the National Holidays we have, why isn’t Summer Solstice a Holiday? It has been celebrated by many cultures for thousands of years. Some use it to celebrate the earth and all its abundance. Others celebrate the spirituality of it which can represent the transition from darkness into light. Others have seen it as a practical time. A time to plant/harvest crops, to schedule time to rest and relax, a time to learn something new or visit someplace you haven’t been to. Summer seems to be a time full of new opportunities. We know temperatures increase during the summer and that gives some a chance to get outside and do activities they love (swimming, biking, craft fairs, yard sales…). Others don’t like the heat at all and turn to air-conditioned venues to pass time (visiting a museum, taking in a movie, going to the library…). The fact is summer really has something for everyone. The important thing is to ENJOY EVERY MOMENT; whatever you choose to do.
If you are doing summer with kids, we’ve got some great suggestions.
Outdoor Adventures
- Go on a nature walk, once a week, to a different place, and bring along Outdoor Bingo
- Meet your neighbors by creating a summertime scavenger hunt game. What neighbor has a seashell? What neighbor has a popsicle? What neighbor has a strawberry?
- Set up a Backyard Art Studio or Craft Day.
- Pick a Growing Sound Song and create your own Music Video.
- Visit your local library and find a DIY book that can help you make/build/create something new.
- Learn a new Language together. Spanish Bingo might be able to help you with that. And it’s fun too!
- Little league baseball teams love fans cheering them on. Pick a team in your community and watch a game together.
- Summer is a great time to celebrate everything outdoors. Keep the spirit alive even on rainy days with our Life on Earth Memory and Matching Game.
We’re gonna make the most of every summer day. Why? “Cause I Love It”
