Moving and Marching Towards our Next Goal
If you’ve followed our news and events blog you know that about 7 months ago, we took a huge leap of faith and joined a small business co-op located inside Painted Tree Boutiques /Cincinnati. Basically, we took inventory from our website and created a retail booth space featuring books, toys and gifts for early learners that helped build positive social-emotional learning. As interest in our space grew, we supplemented with additional products…and subsequently we realized we needed a little more space. But instead of plunging into a bigger booth space, we decided to add a shelf booth-just down the way from our original existing spot. This has given us the opportunity to create a “seasonal” space, or to introduce new products as we continue to march towards our next goal. Is it scary? You bet! It will take more time and attention, more inventory, more of our financial resources. Will it work? Will customers take time to explore our offerings? Will we make the right decisions regarding products? Like any new venture, we don’t know the answers yet. But we will try…and without doubt we will make a few mistakes.
It’s important that we teach children that mistakes are okay. Mistakes foster a growth mindset. They help build resilience and they encourage learning from experiences. These experiences are crucial for developing confident, capable and successful individuals. We want children to believe that their abilities can be developed through effort and learning. This helps them to learn to take risks. When they learn from their mistakes they create better problem-solving skills. Learning through mistakes also helps children develop perseverance, which is essential for achieving goals.
So, as we carry on, moving and marching towards our next goal, we adjust, reducing our fear of failure. And ultimately, we create opportunities intended to support our long-term growth strategy. If you can see it through the eyes of an early learner, you can see it within yourself.
