“Play is the Highest Form of Research”
July is such a fun month! School is out for almost everyone. Families jump on earned time-off to vacation or just stay-cation. It really is a time for PLAY. I have always been a huge fan of the quote by the great Albert Einstein; “Play is the highest form of research.” It was Einstein’s belief that playful exploration and experimentation are crucial for learning and discovery, even at the highest levels of intellectual pursuit. You can just imagine how giddy he must have been when he was diving into something new and playing along with the results. Play is so much about unconstrained thinking. It lets us step outside of the boundaries of structure and explore possibilities without the pressures of being right or wrong. Play helps us learn through experience too. When we play, we experiment. We make mistakes. We learn from our actions in a way that is often more engaging and effective than traditional methods. Although we tend to associate play with children, it’s also a powerful tool for adults to approach problems with curiosity and creativity.
Of course, our focus at Growing Sound Play and Learn has really been all about children. We recognize that play starts right at birth and carries through toddlerhood, preschool, kindergarten and into school-age and beyond. We are always looking for different and unique products in the birth-age 8 range that foster cognitive development while simultaneously building social-emotional intelligence as well. Play encourages intrinsic motivation, and imagination whether it is a craft project, a puzzle, free play, or a game. This sets the foundation for lifelong learning.
So, whether you choose to play outside, or inside…JUST PLAY! You never know what will be discovered.
